Unlawful Eviction: Evicted Due to Divorce

lundi 13 avril 2015

My question involves an eviction in the state of: California

My mother has been managing a property for 20 years for the same landlord in which there were no problems. Rent was collected and deposit before or on the deadline, eviction notices were serve to tenants following legal guidelines, we maintained the property cleaned and presentable, and as well never created problems with the tenants or landlord. About a week ago my mother kicked my father out the apartment because they are going through a divorce in which no scene was created nor allegations made. During this time we still continued on collecting rents, maintaining the property, and as well kept everything out of control. A few days ago the landlord came to the apartment telling us that we need to surrender all management possessions (duplicate mail box keys, duplicate house keys to the unit, contracts, and any rents in which we did not have any at the time). We asked him for a reason for termination of the position and contract and all he said is because of my parents divorce, he wants to start fresh, and he cannot have managers that are divorce due to conflict of interest. Is there any tenant rights in where this can be used a discrimination due to the fair house rules (Los Angeles County)? The only things that we were not in favor is during the time we had to evict some tenant my mother had to pay for the rent of the tenant, legal cost, and was never reimbursed at all. Can we file a lawsuit for discrimination and as well ask for compensation? The owner never made us fill out any contract agreement at all nor any forms. The owner personally served us with the 60 days to surrender the property, we asked if we can stay as tenants paying rent and all he said is no.
