My question involves paternity law for the State of: Alabama
First of all, my birth certificate and records are in the state of Alabama, but I'm an Indiana resident. I know that when a child is born, the husband signs the birth certificate regardless, unless he flat out refuses to sign it and has to go to court and blah blah..
Long story short, my mother's husband isn't my father. My mother passed away when I was 5, and my dad never challenged the birth certificate. I think I've found my biological father, and would like to change the name on my birth certificate. But is this possible? I'm 18 years old now, and it think I read a court case for Alabama where the paternity test doesn't trump the birth certificate no matter what. Something about how my mother's husband had 60 days after to challenge it. But I'm not for sure. Any help at all would be appreciated.
Thanks!
