Estate Assets and Debts: Family Member Threatening the Estate

My question involves estate proceedings in the state of: California

My mother passed away recently and my brother is living in the house, and has lived in the house for years. At any rate, he thinks that the house should be his and all other siblings should give up their piece. Our mom never said anything about leaving the house to him or anyone else for that matter. She did not have a will. We have started the probate process. The administrator will be determined within a couple of weeks. We believe there is no home owners insurance as the house was paid off several years ago and we have found no evidence of a policy. My brother has basically locked everyone out of the house and has made multiple threats to burn the place down if we don't give up our share.

So, my question is, should we get insurance on the house? How would we go about doing that? What kind of insurance is it called? Not home owners since we are not the home owners, right? Does anyone know CA insurance companies who handle this? Our lawyer said, "make a few calls and see if you can get some insurance." But that was all he said.

Thanks!
