My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: HI.
I sold a small pickup truck to a person responding to an ad i posted on Craigslist. He showed up and paid the full amount in cash. I signed the title and had him fill out the release of liability. He has the signed title and truck and has had it since the sale nearly a year ago. I just received a notice of default judgement regarding no safety sticker nor registration tax for 140.00. The DMV didnt receive my release of liability slip in the mail and it did not return to me so it seems lost and non-recoverable. What can or should i do? no bill of sale was made, and there is no paper trail regarding payment. There is plenty of potential liability on my part and some actual liability. Can i go to the DMV and get a re-issued title and call the sheriff/police and collect the vehicle? what options do i have?
