My question involves a condominium located in the State of: Florida
My HOA payment is due on the 10th. I paid on the 11th the entire balance of what I owed. They have an online website that lists the total due and then you can pay with credit card. Today, the 15th, I get an email from the HOA stating that I owe $25 for a late fee. No late fee was listed on the site when I paid everything on the 11th.
Can the HOA backwards charge a late fee onto something that I've already paid in full? In effect, wouldn't that allow them to backwards charge late fees on every single thing I've ever been late on that they did not decide to charge a late fee on? i.e. "You were one day late in February 2014, we did not charge a late fee at that time, but are back-charging one now."
I don't see why I should have to pay a late fee, regardless of whether my payment was late, if they did not request the late fee when I paid my balance off in full. Once I've paid my balance off, isn't that the end of it?
