My question involves business law in the state of: Missouri
My dad started a new business within the past year and it's doing a lot better than what everyone expected. The building the business is in, he bought himself, and voluntarily put his wife on the note. His wife has had him sign many things over to her sons, my step brothers, in the recent past including land, property, ect and my dad didn't really think too much about it. The way they have their marriage set up is what ever property they acquired while they where together is left to the person who doesn't die first. My dad had a lawyer write up a contract that said if he died first that he wanted this latest building he bought go to me and my brother. His wife refused to sign the papers. I know a divorce should be the thing in motion right now, but my dad is old and really doesn't want to go through all the hassle, but they are separated now. All he wants mainly is to make sure we get to keep this building. Is there any legal route or alternative that we may approach this dilemma in making sure this building stays in our family? Thanks in advance.
