Sex Offenses: Failure to Register, Class a Misdemeanor

vendredi 19 septembre 2014

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Oregon

Here's what happened. I was told by my original attorney that I only needed to register once, for my class A misdemeanor of Sex abuse in the third degree. I did register once. I've been in contact with the police before, having my drivers licence ran for traffic stops, and other random occurrences. The last time was about a week ago. I'm nearly married to the woman this all happened with in the first place, been together just about 5 years, and have a 2 year old child. I was told I didn't need to register other then the first time, and I never thought about it sense then. The cops came by today do to a report of the house not being fit for a child to live in, though this turned out to be wrong, they even stated so. The house is more then clean, I'm no slob. Anyway, they took the info, as they have done before, and came back 30 minutes later saying I'm failing to register for many years now. So we go down, they allow me to drive down there, and I register, get it squared away. It's a class A misdemeanor, I know that much. What should I expect from this? Jail time? If I go to jail, I will lose everything. I've been crying all day and I don't know what to do, what to expect, I'm extremely worried. Please, if any of you have information, it would help me a great deal if you could share it.
