Suspension and Revocation: Out of State - License Suspension

dimanche 7 septembre 2014

My question involves a driver's license issued by the State of: South Carolina

Hey everyone,

I was recently charged for driving above 25 mph (6 points) and Reckless Driving (6 points). The 'crime' was done in the state of Kentucky, while I had my SC license on me (I had recently moved to MI then and I'm currently residing in MI). I recently received a letter from the SC DMV saying that my license has been suspended for 3 months as I had accumulated 12 points on my record.

My question is: Do I need to do anything until I receive a letter from the MI DMV? I think that my SC license is suspended for 3 months, but I can continue driving on my MI license. Or will the suspension be eventually be transferred on to my MI license and I will have to serve the suspension here? To clarify, I got myself a MI license after the incident, so I do not have two valid licenses on me.

Also stated in the letter is that I'm eligible to take a Defensive Driver course in the state of SC to reduce my points ( by 4 points). Does this mean that I can take the course and I 'cancel' my suspension? The letter states that I need to take the course BEFORE my suspension begins, which is September 20. But my doubt is, how will it matter as I do not have a SC license on me right now and I need to take the course in SC?

This is confusing for me and I wasn't able to navigate to the right sources online to help me. Any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated.
