My question involves guardianship in the State of: North Carolina
Hello, everyone! I have been seeing this guy who just had a child with another woman about a month ago. They were engaged (technically still are as he doesn't want to risk her running off with the child out of spite) but not married when she gave birth. He has confided in me that he is trying to get sole custody and have her deemed unfit. How does one prove that, though? As far as I can see, there is no way to prove her unfit. She isn't abusive or neglectful. What other ways are there to prove a parent unfit and terminate his/her parental rights? She does not have a job, but I don't believe that can really count against her. The only thing I can think of is that she is breastfeeding and smoking marijuana. However, if he brings that up, will his sobriety also be called into question? Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!
