Civil Rights Issues: Can a Police Officer Ask You for Your License of Parked in Front of a Friends House

dimanche 14 décembre 2014

My question involves civil rights in the State of: New Mexico

Last Tuesday night 12/09/14 around 1:30am I drove to my friends house we were hanging out and I was going to spend the night at my friends house but we were having a conversation before going in my car was off when this 2 police officers came to my window and asked for my license I asked what seem to be the problem? And he responded by saying that it was suspicious that I was parked in front of this house I let them know that this was my friends house and that we were going to go in after we finished having a conversation they proceeded to ask my friend for her name and her address as if we were lying, and by then another police office drove up. When i asked the other female officer why we were being harassed when we did nothing wrong? She replied by saying we are just asking some questions, that's when I got a bit upset and said this feels like harassment i stated 3 white officer harassing two Hispanic women seems very odd and I don't feel comfortable. When I said that the other police officer that drove up I guess got upset for what I said that decided that we being hostile and tried to drag me out of my car with out no probable cause when he couldn't opened the door he decided to go to the passenger side and try dragging my friend out by force, he stopped once I dialed 911 and my friend said this is illegal. The operator sent a sergeant who was confused why we had called 911 we replied we didn't feel safe with 5 different police officers harassing us while we were just parked here. And in the end they excused themselves by saying they were concerned about our safety and they were trying to have us go in to my friends house when they didn't in the first place. What I am wondering was if any of that was legal. Did they have a right to come up to us when we're parked in front of her house doing nothing and also was that a violation of our rights? Was it ok for them to try and drag us out of the car when we did nothing wrong?
