My question involves a condominium located in the State of: New Hampshire
My downstairs neighbor has complained to me about the floor boards squeaking as I walk.
I rent and told him there is nothing I can do without the landlord's permission. The landlord did not give me any permission for any repairs last I spoke to him. Now I have a letter from the Board Association saying they would like to do repairs in the next 10-14 days.
I don't have issue with the repairs, I don't feel it needs to be done but I also don't have issue with it. However, I do rent I don't own the condo unit. This is also wall to wall carpeting and I was told the WHOLE floor creaks so they will be looking to tear up all of the carpet and linoleum in the bathroom and kitchen. I will have to remove everything out of the condo and find some where else to live during the repairs. I was asked to call the association with a date for them to do the repairs.
I did not request the repairs, this is at the request of my downstairs neighbor that does own his condo. I have lived here for 5 years without anyone ever making complaints about the floor creaking (or really anything, I'm quiet) until this guy moved in downstairs six months ago. (I'm not home all day either, I'm at work 5-6 days a week and at school after work 5 days a week, actually there now between classes)
My questions are:
Who is responsible for paying for the repairs, and replacement of the flooring?
I will have to pay for a storage unit while the repairs are being done, who is responsible for this cost?
I will have to rent a hotel room during the repairs, who is responsible for this cost? (I live here year round)
Can they bypass my landlords wishes with these repairs since they are not an emergency?
Is the two weeks enough notice?
(because I know for me it doesn't feel like enough to get a storage unit, rent a truck, clear out the condo and find and book a hotel room for an unknown number of days while working full time and going to school. I took me three months just to unpack)
Again, I don't have issue with the repairs. I don't think they are necessary though. I am concerned about the cost of the repairs and the storage and hotel since I'm still paying my rent and my utilities.
