Speeding Tickets: Speeding Ticket in New York, 70 MPH in a 50 MPH Zone

jeudi 18 décembre 2014

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: NY

Hello,

I got a ticket couple of days ago around Belt Parkway area, NY. As per the ticket, I was doing 70 on 50, but I do not remember and did not check what my speed was at that time.

I looked at the Radar enforced speed limit sign only after being stopped by the cop.

I read about contesting the ticket, having the court date rescheduled etc etc. but am not willing to go that route as it's a time consuming process and not guaranteed to be fruitful.

The officer suggested me to go to traffic school which would clear everything off of my record, when asked if I could get away with a warning.

However, I did take the defensive driver course about 13-14 months ago (Nov, 2013), just to get a discount (my record was clean until 2 days ago, no prior speeding tickets etc.) through Geico. I did get 10% discount through Geico for taking that course an year ago.

Will the certificate/course that I took 13-14 months ago count towards the ticket I got day before yesterday?

If not, are there any ways to make that certificate count towards the ticket I got 2 days back?

My motive is to keep the record clean.

Please advise. Appreciate your help. Thanks.

-TJ
