Applying to Rent: Proof of Income for Renting in Florida

mardi 10 février 2015

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of Florida. I am a newly single mom trying to find an apartment to rent. When I went to apply the apartment management said I needed to make 3x the rent to be approved. I said that was fine because I have my paycheck and child support payments which was 3x the rent. She said I couldn't use my child support as income since it is not court ordered. so I was denied. Do you have to have a court ordered child support to use it as proof of income in Florida? I have been receiving my child support for 5 years with no issues. My ex and I have a notarized paper with our child support agreement on it. I have used this paper to receive help from the state for daycare help etc. How come they except this paper but an apartment won't?
