Disability Benefits: Protecting Personal Assets While Collecting SSDI

I receive SSDI and I have about $50k in a regular savings account that I need to live off of. I live in a community property state and my wife who has very low income recently received a threat of personal lawsuit. It really scared the heck out of me because I can't lose that money. What can I do to protect it? Can I set up an LLC or trust to protect it? I still need access to spend it. thanks
