Evidence: Falsely Accused of Damaging Paint with Paper

mardi 3 février 2015

I will make this brief. Me and my wife came home and there was a car parked next to us that we both noticed was taking advantage of free guest parking while me and my wife pay $50 each for ours. This time the car was parked in assigned parking and I wrote on a regular sized paper in yellow highlighter "pay for your parking like everyone else". I placed the note in the rear passenger door jam under the door handle and me and my wife walked away. The next day I was called by management and they told me that the guy who rented that spot was there and that I damaged a paint job. Management said he wanted to make a police report which they advised him to do as well so I went down to talk to the man to see what the heck was going on.

Turns out that the car that's been mooching on free rent is his sons car which has a vinyl wrap. The story he told me is that the son went down and saw my note. When he pulled my note out some of the vinyl stuck to it after which the son decided to rip a large piece off (no clue why). The man had that piece of vinyl and after holding it and looking at it I quickly said there was no way a piece of paper did that. That's when he told me his son had ripped off the piece I was holding. he hit me up for $1000 at the office and I told him I would like to look at the car and get an explanation of how this could have happened. he called me later that night and told me that it would be cheaper than that to fix and i told him I want to look at the car. His son has yet to return and it has been 3 days. Now the father is telling me that he owns the car and is asking me for my insurance information. Why my insurance info? This was not a car hitting another car. Wraps like these need to be replaced every 3 years or so because they are vinyl. Not paint. I know that I did not scratch his car and all I saw is a picture of a tear above the rear quarter panel that both me and my wife agreed that was way higher where the note was left. Not even close. The only reason the note was even left in a 1/4" gap was because I did not want to touch the car as I could tell it was custom and did not want to touch it. Am I liable for this? I have no criminal record at all and am paranoid that this guy is going to push everything to the limit. I Suffer from Panic DISORDER And Agoraphobia And He Has Now Made It harder for me to even walk around the apartment building. He got management against me and now I feel like me and my wife are being singled out. There is no picture of what he said he thinks I did. Only a picture of what his son did.
