My question involves child support in the State of: New York
Does anyone know of case law involving non-cooperative step-parents and financial aid applications to private schools and private colleges?
The other joint custodial parent is being a duplicitous. She claims to support the child's choice to attend a prep school and apply for financial aid. She has made these claims in front of the child's adolescent psychiatrist who is a potential expert witness should one be needed. As additional information she suffers from personality disorders.
So the applications are in and she claims her new spouse refuses to cooperate and let her use their 2013 jointly filed taxes to submit a financial aid application. This is likely a shame excuse as the step-parent is truly a nice person.
I have offered to cover all educational expenses and merely asked for cooperation in the scholarship process. The child is an outstanding athlete and likely to receive something.
Seems to me cooperation is being used as a weapon and the joint custodial parent is hoping to stick it to me financially.
Thoughts and advice much appreciated!
