Liens and Encumbrances: Foreclosure- Vacating Property

jeudi 19 février 2015

My question involves real estate located in the State of: New Jersey

Was living in my fathers' home. He passed away in 2013. Since then the property went to foreclosure but didn't sell: it went back to the lender. Three months later I came home one day locks changed. I got in through an open patio door. Found out the bank sold the house to an investment firm. I was never notified of the sale etc..

Someone told me Bank's do this often. I still technically reside there. I was told without a court order they can not force me out even by changing locks. I was told to continue residing there and make them get a sheriff order to remove me. It seems they are trying to make me leave without having to go through the eviction process. Someone told me I could even change the locks and put my old ones back on. I agree this postponing the inevidable but I can't move for a few more weeks. Also, my dog was missing the day the locks were changed. I called the bank and told them I filed a police report of theft. Three days later the dog appeared in my living room. They brought it back. Do they have to inform me that the property was sold? can I technically continue to stay there and wait for a court order to vacate .Was that theft the fact they took my dog then brought it back? Any help appreciated/ Thanks.
