Online Services: Subscription Fees Charged Even After Cancellation of Service

My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: Not Sure (address not listed on website)

Hi all,

I'm based in the UK but the company this relates to is a US company hence my question here.

Here is a summary of the situation:

I signed up to an online music lesson tutor. It was a low cost 30 day trial with the option to cancel, after which monthly payments of around $40 would be taken from Paypal.

After joining I didn't think it would be worth the asking price so I logged into my account on their website and cancelled exactly as described in their instructions, then didn't think about it any longer.

Some 5 or 6 months later I noticed they had continued to take payments from my Paypal account even though I had cancelled my subscription via their website.

So in effect they have taken almost $200 from me after I cancelled.

After exchanging quite a few messages with them, they agreed to refund my money. However another month has passed and still no refund and it seems they have stopped replying to my messages.

I have no idea what rights I have under US consumer law and how to go about getting these thieves to refund my money.

Paypal are refusing to help me, so I thought I'd post here hoping someone can tell me who I need to speak to in order to get some help.

Thanks
