My question involves a driver's license issued by the State of: California
I had a valid out-of-state license but an expired California license. I was cited for the expired license, and the officer cited it as a misdemeanor.
I went and renewed my California license within 10 days or so. I'm scheduled to appear in court in early March.
At the arraignment, should I plead Guilty or Not Guilty? I'm hoping that the DA will reduce the charge from a Misdemeanor to an Infraction, given my squeaky clean driving record, the fact that I had a valid out-of-state license, and my quick action to renew my California license.
I've heard that if I plead Guilty, the charge can't be reduced to an Infraction. Is that true? Should I plead Not Guilty in order for the DA to offer a plea deal, offering to reduce to an Infraction in exchange for a Guilty plea?
Thanks very much!
