Grounds for Eviction: Eviction on Broken Lease - Dependents to Collections, Liable

samedi 6 septembre 2014

My question involves an eviction in the state of: Florida

My family ( Mother, Father, and two sisters) lived in an apartment for a few months in 2010/2011. We did break the lease when my father lost his job. The apartment complex had my parents put all three of the childrens name on the lease and sign it. Our ages (their children) at the time were 20, 19 and 13, all were listed as other occupants and signed. None of us besides my parents paid rent, we were all in school.

Now 4 years later when I try to apply for credit I get denied and come to find out that I am in collections on my credit report for the full balance of the broken lease $2653. I called my other sister/parents and we all have reports in our credit report from the apartment for the same $2653. Our parents never told us/weren't aware that us three were also sent to collections. It has massively affected our credit.

So my question is can the apartment Management actually hold me liable for that amount just because we signed the lease when we had to since otherwise they wouldn't let us live there when we 3 were dependents, or are we just SOL since we were over 18 and signed it?
