Hiring: Employment Screening

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: NJ

I have been recently contact by a former employer to schedule an interview. This former employer ( who by the way is a rather large organization) released me from employment almost 8 years ago for a substance abuse issue. This issue has not arisen again for the past 7 years. At the time, I am not sure if I signed anything agreeing that I would not be eligible for employment again with this company.

Questions:

Is it possible, or legal, for an employer to have an exiting employee sign such an agreement?

If I signed such an agreement and it is not caught in the pre-employment screening process, are they able to fire me at a later date if it is found?

If no such agreement was signed can, or will they discriminate against me for prior substance abuse issues if they are not ongoing? Whether its through the pre-employment screening process or after I have started employment.

This company's recruiting team reached out to me for recruitment. My biggest concern here is that they do not yet know about my prior history with this company. I do not want to go through the process and accept the position only to be fired later for this reason. Whether human resources discovers it or someone recognizes me and makes them aware. I currently have a job, which I am not real happy with, but I do not want to end up unemployed.
