My mother arrived to Indianapolis Airport on Oct 7 for her return flight Indianapolis, IN - Chicago, IL, - Viena Austria - Dnepropetrovsk Ukraine. She checked in her luggage and got boarding pass. We said good bye and when she passed all security checks I left Indianapolis Airport thinking that everything is perfectly fine. Around 2.30 pm however I received a phone call from United employee who told me that Canada air had cancelled my mother's ticket to Chicago and she was not allowed to fly. In their computer it appeared that Chicago-Viena-Dnepropetrovsk flights were still valid and we had to catch her flight in Chicago. We were unable to buy a ticket to Chicago, that is when United employees documented the case and I had to call United customer service to have this ticket changed, they were willing to make changes but when they tried to make changes they realized that entire return ticket was in fact cancelled. Canada air did not notify me or United airlines about it! I have original boarding pass that was issued at the airport as a proof that Canada air failed to notify me or even partnering airlines. The ticket that I booked with CheapAir was also available on their website until final arm of the itinerary was completed and I printed it out dated Oct 8.
On April 16, 2014 my mother was on her way from Izmir, Turkey to Istanbul, then she was supposed to fly to Toronto - Indianapolis, but she was unable to take that flight because she didn't have Canadian transit visa, we were not warned about such possibility but Canada air agent said is was our problem and our problem it was. I bought full priced one way ticket with different airline company to get her to the USA. I called Canada air and explained the situation, I said that according to regulations airport tax can be refunded for part of the trip that Involved Canada since we are not using Canadian airport. They said it was possible but since they can not calculate exact amount Canada air agent told me they will send information to accounting to get that done. I NEVER authorized cancellation of the return flight, I NEVER asked for tax refund on return flight and I NEVER received any notifications that return flight can/will be cancelled! Not only Canada air failed to notify me, you also failed to notify your partnering airlines as they had this ticket in their system, were able to issue a boarding pass and check in the luggage.
My mother has gone thru humiliating experience being thrown out of plane while unable to understand English and suffering rising blood pressure due to frustration! She has to leave the USA before Oct 15, that is when her permitted stay is expiring.
Canada air agents on the phone are unable to give any answer except that they can not see any information regarding this case, they advised online complaint form and I just got confirmation from them that they will take up to 15 business days. Do I have any options to get this mess straightened?
