My question involves child support in the State of: Tennessee
My ex-wife, who lives in Tennessee, is claiming (now that my child is over 18) that support was ordered to age 21 as long as he was in college. The law reads age 18 unless he is still in high school, but she is claiming that her order predates that ruling. As near as I can tell, the age 18 was written into law in 1984, 12 years before the divorce. In addition, the divorce paperwork I have does not set a specific age, but says by guidelines.
My question is if there any circumstances where she could have legally been ordered to receive child support to age 21 (in 1996)? My child's entire college expenses (tuition, books, fees, dorm) are being paid for by me, so I do not think educational needs would apply (nor do I think that exists in TN anyway, as far as I can tell).
