My question involves an eviction in the state of: New Jersey
Back in 2011 I got sick and lost my job of 15 years. I was unable to pay my rent on time and was served with eviction papers. I went to court twice. The first time I made an agreement to pay the past due balance and stayed in the apartment for a couple of months. I got caught up, but it took me going through my savings. I finally wound up filing chapter 7 bankruptcy. I could no longer pay the rent. I received another eviction notice, went to court and agreed to move out. At that time, I had a balance, but paid the total amount in full within a few months.
I've been living with my parents since 2012 and am ready to move out on my own again.
I've been working full time since 2013 and I've re-established my credit.
The problem is I've tried to apply for a few apartments, but have been denied due to the civil court history.
Is there anything I can do? Every management company seems to have the same process..."been to eviction court...we won't rent to you".
Any advice is appreciated.
