I am 28. I have been legally blind since about age 3 and have received SSI since about age 12.
I've read that there are special rules for Social Security credits and SSDI eligibility for the legally blind, but I haven't found comprehensive detail on them.
Based on my age and disability onset, how many years must I work and how many credits must I receive to be eligible for SSDI?
I've heard of elderly people postponing retirement so they can receive a larger monthly benefit. Since I am legally blind and could receive SSDI for up to 70 more years, how will my SSDI benefits change over time as my credits increase? Would it make sense to wait like retiring people do?
