My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: I was accused of sharing public info that a coworker was a convicted pedophile and the same time my doctor had certified me for FLMA intermittent.I worked for this company for 17 months, put in over 2350 in the last 12 months. They also have 50 plus employees within 75 miles. I was a part of a four man crew that went to different states to assemble large metal buildings, the company put us up in hotels. I was hospitalized twice the past year. Management had spoken to me numerous times that they were looking me to be the next field supervisor. I found out that one of my coworkers was an unregistered pedophile and I reported him to the authorities and called my project manager and explained what I found out. His reply to me was he could not take my word for it and had to investigate it himself and that I need to kept this a secret. I agreed, the very next day he had to take me to the emergency room, doctor there informed to follow up with my family doctor and to ask my employer about FMLA paper work to give to my family doctor. The next day I went to the office and ask for the paper work and was told that it couldnt pertain to me and come back after meeting doctor to share what he had to say. Went to the doc. That same day and back to the office and had the second conversation and again was informed that it could not pertain to me, except this time the HR officer was in ear shot and interject that yes I was eligible for FLMA intermittent. Two days later I was approached at a local restaurant I was told the paper work was ready for me to pick it up. The same day { I found after being terminated} there was an ad posted on craigslist for the very same position that I was employed for, there wasnt any openings open. When I got a call from my doc. To pick up the form and that he had signed off on it, to turn it in, the same day I spoke to my project manager, told him that I would be turning the certification in the next day, I was fired within the first 15 minutes of clocking in, I later found out that the company cancelled my employer paid benefits the prier day before terminating me.The reason I was given, I broke an oral agreement and the whole plant knew about this pedophile. I believe the intermittent FLMA was the underlying reason. What can I do about this and my UI benefits are being held up now and its reach the first whole month since separation.
