My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: North Carolina
I'm not sure which area to post this, I chose debt collection because it involves debt collections. I recently got a new phone number, and immediately I started getting calls for someone else. At first it started out as debt collectors, hospitals, and lawyers trying to contact the person. Suddenly, I started getting calls and texts from people who are, I assume, friends and family of the person who had the number. Whenever anyone would call I would say "She's not at this number any more, sorry." and I would never hear from them again. After about the 6th call from someone I got worried and said that she doesn't have this number, but I'm worried about her because I've gotten half a dozen calls from her friends/family, and about a dozen calls from debt collectors, hospitals, and lawyers. I said that if he found her, please have her call me so I can pass along the message. A couple weeks ago I got a very angry voice mail from the woman saying she heard she had a message, but I'm "dancing with the devil" spreading rumors and lies about her. She said she is out of the country but will either call me or her legal time when she returns. Is there a case she could build against me? As far as I'm aware, I did not give out any really personal information about her (just that these people are calling her). Is what I did a legal issue?
