Reckless Driving: Possible Reckless Driving Charge for High Speed

lundi 15 septembre 2014

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: Louisiana

Okay so recently I was driving down Benton Road (or Hwy 3) heading home from school, there were no other cars on this road besides one and I didn't even notice I was speeding (no one to compare my speed to, you know?). Well, the speed limit was 65 but this road has intervals on each side (with either side traveling a different direction, both having two lanes each) the other car on the road flew past me and a cop u-turned across a median as soon as the guy did, and he pulled is both over. We both got a ticket BUT he wrote my ticket for the other cars speed, and he wrote that we were in the 55mph zone and not the 65mph (and I know for a fact that we weren't). So my ticket is for speeding but it says that i was going 94 in a 55, when I was only going 80 in a 65, and i know there's no excuse either way but still ( it's a brand new car and I still have a hard time telling when i've accelerated too much, especially with the radio on).

I don't know how to fight this though? I have a court date that I have to attend and I plan on taking a defensive driving class or driver improvement class before then but will it be enough? I'm only 17 so I'm afraid that this will go on my record as a misdemeanor because I have job plans that it could stop me from pursuing?? Please help, this is causing me a lot of anxiety on top of school.

( oh and if it helps any I've had a totally clean record, and this is the very first ticket/traffic offense i've ever received )
