Traffic Lane Violations: Carpool Lane Violation at Onramp with Metering but Changed Lanes in Time to Stop

vendredi 12 septembre 2014

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: CA

My question is regarding the carpool metering lane laws and the odds of a judge being lenient. I received a ticket today for use of the carpool lane entering HWY 50 in Sacramento CA. It was 8:55AM with no traffic and meter lights were still on, they go off at 9AM. I was not in the far right lane to enter the freeway but the 2nd right lane that enters as a carpool lane. After I entered the freeway and realized the meters were on I quickly put my blinker on, changed lanes to get into the non carpool lane and made a full and complete stop behind the white line. Wasn’t going super fast, didn’t screech tires just realized my mistake by the stop lights being on and also saw the cop sitting there waiting for people. I was a little surprise I still got a ticket. After he gave it to me and I explained the situation he just said I can go to court and see if the judge will be lenient. He also said he would write it in the comments that I did get over and stopped.

Is it really a valid ticket just that I entered the freeway from the carpool lane? If so, what are the odds that this will be dropped since I was able to move to the correct lane and stop at the light?

Thanks for any help you may have.
