My question involves name change laws in the State of: Florida
My husband has been in my child's life for about 31/2 years now. We want to have him adopted by my husband. Sons bio dad has not had any contact in almost 3 years (this dec will be 3 years). He has not paid child support in almost 8 years. What are the chances of us going back to court to have my husband adopt my son and the judge wanting to reestablish the relationship between my son and his bio dad rather then take away the rights? Bio dad has a criminal record of selling prescription pills and has been in jail for it, now released. Im not sure what the laws in Florida are for this. We want to go ahead with a court hearing to get the bio dads rights removed and have my husband adopt my son, but dont want to go ahead if the judge will want to first give the bio dad and son relationship another try.
