Education Law Issues: Restrictions on Switching to an Online School

jeudi 2 octobre 2014

My question involves education law in the State of: Missouri

Alright. So this is all that has happened in the last five months!

-I moved out of my parents house and my dad told me that I won't be able to come back.

-I moved in with one of my friends and her parents

-I got put in the hospital

-My dad found out about me being in the hospital and told me that I needed to go live with my mom

-Instead I stayed with a different friend and her parents

-I told my dad that my mother who is paying child support to my father said that he needs to forward the money to me because I do not live with my dad and my stepmom anymore (which she actually said that.) He told me no and said that he's using it to pay off the rest of the hospital bill and said that that bill is my debt to him, which is completely FALSE because for 1) I am a minor and 2) He sent the rest of what insurance didn't pay to my mom, which was $800 and she paid it in full.

-I am having troubles at school and finally realized that I absolutely cannot keep going to a public school. I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression a few years back and school honestly just makes it a hell of a lot worse than it already was. And yes, I do take my prescribed medicine for it. But literally everything that I've tried has not helped. I cannot learn in a hostile environment.

So with all of that being said, I enrolled myself, with the help of my mother, into an online accredited high school. The only problem now is being withdrawn from school, which my father has to do. Keep in mind that he has been nothing but a complete jerk. Yesterday at school I had a discussion with my counselor and she said that my dad would have to withdraw me from school in person and before he could even do that, my father and I would have to sit in the principals office and explain to him everything that is going on, which I have every right to say no to. But its the simple fact that she told me I would HAVE to do that. I personally DO NOT want to speak with that certain principal because he intimidates EVERY STUDENT that comes into his office. My friend and her parents even have proof of it as well, because my friend and her mother had to go into the principals office and speak to him about my friend and what she was going through at the time. The principal is also ex-military so that could be another reason as to why he is very rude with his students. He also talks in third person all the time as if he is someone special.

I just feel like the school is getting more involved in my private life than they need to be. I feel as if they are overstepping their boundaries. Please tell me what you think. I would love your input.

Thank you and have a blessed day! :D
