My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: Texas
I got a ticket for making an illegal U-turn at an intersection in Sunset valley, TX. I would not have made the U-turn if the signs were properly placed at the intersection, so I would like to go to court and defend my case.
Here is the situation-
There is no sign at the traffic light, no sign at the divider across the intersection, only one sign on the left side on the divider, which can be missed very easily, especially during night with these high Texas trucks. Here is a rough draw of the sign arrangement at the intersection.
Blue bars are the traffic lights. Purple rectangles are where the No-U-Turn signs are placed (the no-u-turn sign on the traffic light was facing other side). Red is where I think the no u-turn sign should be at.
1. As soon as the officer pulled me, he asked me what he stopped me for, and immediately, he pointed his torch light at the traffic light, but there was no sign. He took a minute to figure out that the sign was infact at the divider, where I took the u-turn.
2. The sign at the divider is too low, due to the headlights of the on-coming traffic, I could not see the board, thought if I did try to look, I could have seen, but I wanted to avoid getting blinded by the headlights, I did not look there.
3. I stopped at the intersection, coz it was red. I took a moment to look around for the no-u-turn signs, did not find any, so I proceed taking the u-turn.
My point is, for the otherside traffic, there was a sign, but not for the traffic from my side. Are there any regulations on where the no-u-turn signs should be? Height of the sign? and how far it should be before the intersection? I would like to appear at the court and fight my case. Please throw some light. Do I stand a chance?
