My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: Nevada and California
Hello!
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here's the story:
My car is currently registered in CA. However I recently moved to Nevada 2 months ago. My car payment is currently about a month and a half late. I've paid off around 20k and owe less than 5k more on my car to the lender.
Reason of nonpayment being is while moving a couple of times over several months in California with friends and family prior to finally moving to nevada I was in an accident and had to pay quite a bit out of pocket to fix the car while I haven't been working... My debit card number had changed at some point during that time and thought it was on autopay direct through my account - but was on this card and thus was cancelled just prior to the accident unfortunately w/o my awareness. The cost of the accident and having to take it right back to the shop again after the first mechanic left it with addtl problems - cost me virtually everything I had. Now I'm looking for work but cannot afford to pay the current payment atm...
What are the dangers with repo after moving out of state? Also can they seize ownership of the car w/o having it in possession? Should I sell the car now while it's still in my name (as far as I'm aware) and just pay off the difference? It's a Lexus 2008 ... I was intending to goto the DMV in the next couple of days as I also have a fix it ticket for change of address in the process of moving several times I was ticketed for this... Could something happen at the DMV?
A side note -- The lender requires you to have insurance with the car. Is this any sort of loophole? A couple of years back while I didn't have insurance for a month or so once they found out - even though I had already bought insurance - They forced me to pay a high premium for insurance for the month I didn't have it... Something ridiculous like 700$+ dollars for a month and a half if I remember correctly. Is there any loophole in not having insurance while they require it and their own insurance should of kicked in? Let me know if you have any questions also!
addtl note -- My most recent two or possibly three payments were for 1500$ which is over 1000$ more than the normal monthly payments as at the time I had came into some money and was trying to pay it off more quickly - Would it be a possibility to talk to the lender and ask them to redistribute these payments into normal monthly payments so it'll be covered for the next several months still while looking for work? or is this not a possibility generally? I recall trying this with something prior as I had overpaid but they did not allow me at the time to redistribute past payments like that - but this was a long time ago and was not involving my car...
Thanks in Advance! Hopefully this is the correct forum for this; If not please let me know, and I will correct it.
