Careless Driving: Truck Rolled into Garage Door

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: Colorado



I was at a car wash that is enclosed on a military base.

When I pulled up to the garage door, I got out of my truck to open the door, as I was walking up to the opener I heard my wife yelling. She was sitting in the truck.

I looked back and saw my truck rolling towards the garage door.

It hit the garage door and came to a stop before I could get in and hit the brakes.



I must have put it into neutral instead of park. :wallbang:



I went into the car wash office to let them know I had hit their garage door.

As procedure they called the police.

The police took my statement and my wife's and the guy at the counter.

The only witness was my wife.

We were very cordiall and polite. I had no idea I was going to get a ticket.



Of course that's when I realize my drivers license was expired by 3 weeks, grrrr.....



I was cited for careless dirving and an expired drivers license.



What options do I have as far as the careless driving ticket goes?

Should I get representation or will me explaining to the judge what happened be enough?
