My question involves a child custody case from the State of NY.
So my family's situation is extremely unique to say the least. I don't really expect anyone to be able to fully answer my question without being able to review the entire case, however I'd appreciate any insight.
My Mother was engaged to a man for several years (6 years). Her fiancé has two wonderful girls from his pervious marriage aged 13 and 9. Unfortunately, before my mother and her fiancé were able to be legally wed, he passed away tragically and very unexpectedly. Now the girl's mother will not allow my mother and the rest of our family to see the girls or have any contact with them at all. I realize that things would be different had my mother and their father been legally wed, however I was wondering if there is ANYTHING we could do to try to see the girls. These girls have been my "sisters" for close to a decade and it is so hard knowing that we are no longer permitted to see them. I know that their mother has the right to do this since she is now their sole guardian, however is there any ground my family and I stand to try and litigate for the right to see the girls? They've already lost their dad and now because of their selfish mother they've lost all connection with all these people who love and care about them more than anything. I feel like all efforts would be futile, however I'm hoping that someone knows of some loophole of sorts.
Thank you so much!
