There is one thing I don't understand when I watch COPS (on Fox).
The police tells the perp, that he is going to jail and will face the judge in the morning. But how can the suspect be able to defend himself, if he just has a couple hours to prepare, even he has no documents and whatsoever. He probably can't even reach his real lawyer, will he then be defended by some underpaid social worker state lawyer? Mostly the perps are being arrested and put to jail at night and face a judge in the morning. There is really no time for any defense preparations.
How does this work? Too bad COPS don't show what happens the next morning. I would really like to know. I've always wondered.
Thanks in advance
