Service and Repair: Cheated by an Auto Mechanic I Found on Craigslist

lundi 26 janvier 2015

My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: New York, Albany area.

Had a mechanic on craigslist do work on my 2002 Honda Civic that started out as $800 for head gasket water pump and timing belt with minor auto body work. Had a hand written contract for the above mentioned work. Then the mechanic keep requesting more money to do the work as he was supposedly finding other issues.

I asked for receipts and old parts that we're being replaced, never supplied. Now I'm up to over $2500 and just got the car back with a damaged front bumper paint job not complete. Had the car since October 22nd. Took it yesterday to get inspected and I asked while they had the front wheel off if the rotor and calipers were replaced an they said no they are over half worn.

Also mechanic claimed the car needed the above mentioned and wasn't performed. I have all this listed and signed by mechanic of all the parts he supposedly replaced.

What is my legal rights?

Thanks,

Frank
