Breaking Up: Ex Boyfriend Left, and Left His Stuff. and a Pile of Debt

vendredi 21 novembre 2014

My question involves a relationship in the state of: Florida.

I was with a guy for a little over 6 months. Long story short, I was heavily manipulated, and spent money I shouldn't have. Lesson learned.

He left, went back to a former relationship many states away.

However, the there is a co signed truck, which is still in my possession, and a pile of his belongings that are valued in the 1-2k range.

The truck has negative equity, from his truck that was traded in. He does not want the vehicle, and has told me to sell it. However, the negative equity

is not minor. (close to 5K)

His legal address is still this one, and his mail is still being forwarded here. I am not sure on his current address as I have had mail returned that I have tried to send him in regards to the debt, plus sending his birth certificate as he requested.

He has stated in email to sell the truck and that he will not be helping with the deficit. Do I have any recourse to sell what is left here to try and help defray some of the cost of returning the truck?

I don't want to be in trouble, but this is something I have to take care of sooner versus later as I can't really afford 2 car payments and will be in fiscal trouble eventually.

I have friends saying send a certified letter, as I was like a landlord, and then consider it abandoned and sell it. Others who say tell him to pay X or it will be sold to cover his 1/2 of the deficit. (Or as much as I can get towards it as I doubt I will get that much.)

Thank you in advance for your time.
