Private Sales: Bought a Guitar on Craigslist Advertised As USA Made but It Was Not

mercredi 12 novembre 2014

My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: WI

I recently bought a guitar advertised as a made in the USA guitar via Craigslist. From all outward appearances it certainly looked to be made in the USA. It has a USA serial number and "made in the USA" decal.

When I got the guitar home I took it apart and it is in fact not made in the USA. The stamps and interior markings of the guitar tell me it's put together from parts from various countries and the only USA made part is the plate with the serial number on it. I paid a good amount for it, about 3-4X what the guitar is worth. The neck with "made in the USA" on the headstock is in fact made in Japan, the body and other parts are made in China.

I contacted the guy and he basically said "sue me". Do I have any legal recourse?

I looked for the ad but it's since been deleted. It's also not in my web cache since that computer actually crashed the day after I bought it with a corrupt drive so I can't even retrieve info off of it anymore. I know there's a site called harmari but I don't qualify to use that site.
