Stolen Property: Former Employee Stealing

vendredi 21 novembre 2014

My question involves criminal law for the state of: AZ

I suspect a former employee of mine was stealing merchandise from our building. We had security cameras but they don’t record long enough going back to when she was employed here (they only record for a few weeks) so that is not an option. The problem is, and I admit this doesn't help me, is we have a pretty relaxed inventory system in place and some of the items were not kept on record as they have been sitting here for a couple years but I know some items are certainly gone. I know I’m limited with my options, but is there any way I can get the police to get a search warrant for her property and to find and search any storage units she may have? The items were toy accessories and clothing which our employees and some friends of the company can buy close to cost, so there are several transactions where she made purchases I just suspect more was taken that wasn’t paid for. Part of the problem if the cameras were used is she might be seen leaving with merchandise bags, but at least part of the items would have been paid for.

I would like to file charges with the local police but I’m having a hard time of coming up with additional ways of showing evidence to get a search warrant. I know if I go in now with just a suspicion they won’t listen. Any help or suggestions would be useful.
