Trademarks: Do I Need to Trademark My Organization's Name

Hi, I am creating an organization. I am in the process of creating a Kickstarter campaign for it, and building a website. The organization will be attempting to create a very small floating city that will be off the coast. How do I protect myself against someone filling a trademark using my organization's name?
