Arrest Warrants: Tennessee Possession Mj 10 Years Ago Fta Warrant

mercredi 19 novembre 2014

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Tennessee

I was "arrested and released upon my own cooperation" about 10 years ago in Waynesboro, TN. I now have a warrant for an arrest for an FTA charge. I was originally driving through with some friends on our way to Bonnaroo and we got pulled over at about 1/2am, I was asleep in the back, My friend that was driving already had a charge or two in Arkansas and didn't want any more, the other was under 18 at the time. So I stepped up and took the charge so we could be on our way. We had about 5 grams of Marijuana on us.

I recently found out about this because I travel a lot for my job and I was returning in to the country and at the airport the officers pulled me to the side and asked me if I knew I had a warrant for my arrest, dumbfounded I look and said "what?". Little did I know this charge just popped up on their computer.

I have traveled in and out of the country over the last 10 years numerous times and have never had anyone say anything. I have purchased multiple guns in this time period because I like to hunt and for fun. I can no longer buy guns, as I was recently denied due to this charge.

I called the sheriff's office, they told me to call the court, I called the court, they told me to call the DA, I am waiting until tomorrow to do that.

They keep telling me I have to go there, where I am sure they will most likely immediately arrest me and take me to jail.

Is there a statute of limitations? Where do I go from here? Should I just ignore it? Hire a lawyer? Why is this just popping up now?

Oh and I live in Colorado now.

Thanks for any and all help in advance.
