Medical Malpractice: Found Suture Left in Upper Eyelid and Now Scratching My Eyeball

My question involves medical malpractice in the state of: Illinois

11yrs ago I had a surgery to repair laceration to inside of upper eyelid. 1yr later I still had severe irritation to eye ball.Dr said it was scar tissue from surgery. I talked to another Dr and he said it is a suture left in my eyelid and another surgery would be needed to remove it. 2 months after 2nd surgery I went back due to same irritation. Dr informed me that it was scar tissue and to deal with it.

Now 10yrs later/last night I still have irritation from a little white dot on inside my eyelid so I grabbed it with tweezers thinking I'm removing the scar tissue. I ended up pulling out a piece of string from inside my upper eyelid. I pulled it out about 3/16" and wouldn't come any farther....it hurt like hell! I now have a string dangling inside my eyelid rubbing on my eye ball.

Called the surgeon this morning and he said there is nothing he can do so the nurse talked to the chief medical advisor and the chief said they removed me as a patient 2yrs after 2nd surgery.

Do I have grounds for legal action?
