Roommates: Deadbeat

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Maryland Ok i let a person from my job move into my two bedroom apt. He signed a lease and everything. So said roommate began paying the rent more later each month. Until the police nearly evicted us from him not paying altogether. I paid what was owed and saved the eviction from happening. He paid me back for that. So a month before the lease was over no rent was paid by him.I paid my part of the rent but he never paid anything, on top of that he destroyed his room leaving a big penailty and no deposit return for me . Sounds like he would be reponsible because of the lease agrement, right? So when i go to see about the lease the apartment complex lost the new lease that was signed by both of us. ...damn, but they have a record showing that he paid monthly with his credit card, and i Have pictures of his destroyed room before we moved out. i also have text messages stating he would pay what he owed .So do I have a case although there is no record of the lease? Someone help, I work with this person (oppsite shifts) and I NEED MY JOB But Its so hard not fight this person.
