My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Washington
My girlfriend and I rented an apartment and shared the $1200. security deposit. The lease was for a term of one year. After one year we split up, she left. She never contacted the landlord about this and I continued to live there for two more years. The lease was never renewed after the initial year was up and I seemed to be on automatic month to month. All was fine and I paid rent on time, always. Two years after she moved out, I decide to leave the apartment. Now my landlord says he was contacted by my ex girlfriend requesting to be taken off any contract for the apartment and she is asking for the security deposit back. Two years after her abandonment! My question is, Does he have an obligation to return half of the security deposit to her?
