My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: California
I am a little concerned about my situation and I would like to know what I am getting myself into. I looked through the California EDD website but I don't see any concrete answers.
Basically, I had been consistently working and the last job I had was a temp position with full-time hours, Mon-Fri, 9am-6pm. I lost my job about three weeks ago, due to my contract ending, and my first EDD check is on it's way to me. In the mean time, I have been actively looking and interviewing for jobs, and yesterday I accepted employment for a PART-TIME position.
Here is the deal. I do not consider the part-time position SUITABLE work because the hours are vastly different.
I have accepted a part-time OVERNIGHT job, Thur-Mon, 12:30am-5:30am. As it turns out, my gross earnings are about $150 more than my allotted weekly amount, and I wasn't anticipating this when I was offered the position. (Initially I was supposed to get paid less than EDD had granted me, but they surprised me by offering me more money.)
The thing is, I have worked an overnight position before and I got extremely sick, due to the stress on my body. The reason why I accepted this job is because I really do want to be working, and secondly, this is a job I actually really want because it will actually help my career. I am really hoping to at least give it six months before I decide to look for something else. Basically, I am actually willing to work a part-time job because it is a good career move. (despite the hours.)
But again, what I am worried about is that my body won't be able to handle these hours. Like I said, I got pretty sick with this weird virus that plagued me for a few months, and if something like this happens again, I will feel compelled to quit, but I am concerned that this will affect my unemployment claim.
From what I read, because I am already making more money than my weekly allowance, my claim will automatically be closed when I file my paperwork. Am I eligible to reopen my claim if I were to quite my overnight job?
Any insight would be appreciated!
