Probate Court Procedure: Independent Administration vs. Using a Lawyer

mardi 11 novembre 2014

My question involves estate proceedings in the state of: Louisiana

Going through succession of a Louisiana estate. Estate is solvent and no heirs are absent. Currently paying an estate attorney based on a percentage of estate value, 3% to be exact. Executrix of estate is also independent administrator, by consent. All research leads me to believe that independent administration is typically cheaper and quicker, and benefits the heirs of the estate. Being that the attorney settling the succession is paid by percentage, what then are the advantages of independent administration? Would I be correct in thinking that the attorney is now benefiting more from independent administration (being paid by percentage) than the heirs? Thank you for any assistance.
