Auto Insurance: Disputing Property Damage Payout from Auto Accident

vendredi 10 avril 2015

My question involves an injury that occurred in the state of: California

Slighty bumped into a parked vehicle while i was reversing out of my parking space. there is no visible damage to my vehicle(2014 Hyundai Genesis) and other person did not appear to have any damages either(1999 Honda Accord). But i noticed the Accord had some pre-exising damage. other person said not to worry because there was clearly no damage. we exchanged information and parted ways.

the following week I get a call from his insurance carrier(Mercury) asking to get my recorded statement and asked for my insurance info. come to find out my policy actually had a 1 day lapse due to a late payment and i didnt have coverage on the day of the accident. 3 months later they send me a letter saying that i owe $2900 for the repairs made to the Accord. Immediately got in contact with claims adjuster and sent them photos of my car because i thought damages would be a few hundred dollars at most. Tried telling them that there was no way i did all that damage and if they inspected my vehicle they would have seen it. After multiple phone calls and emails, the insurance adjuster is not budging at all. Any advise on how i can dispute the property damage payout?
