My question involves estate proceedings in the state of: Washington?
Ok, this is a mess and we're looking for any sort of basic information as to where to start.
A man born a Czech citizen has one child, moves to the US, becomes a US citizen (is no longer a Czech citizen), last lived in Washington State, then ten years ago moves back to the Czech republic to retire, dies there leaving a wife and his one child by his prior marriage, and no will. The child lives in the US and is a US citizen. The wife lives in the Czech Republic and is also a US citizen.
Since he's not a Czech citizen it seems their law does not apply, so how does one go about dealing with this? He has (AFAIK) no official US residence, so would it be the state he last lived in?
If it's US law and he passed without a will, does the wife inherit everything by default?
Just looking for some pointers to get started dealing with this.
Thanks,
Z.
