My question involves guardianship in the State of: Michigan
A 15 year old student born in the US to non-US parents is currently living abroad with parents and wishes to spend a year in high school in the city she was born to help her with her english skills.
Student and parents do not wish to go through a foreign student exchange program.
The local high school requires students to reside with a legal guardian and the school district requires court documentation.
There are 2 potential host families willing to become temporary legal guardians.
Questions:
Does the student require a visa (F-1?) even though the student is a US citizen?
Is it possible to transfer guardianship only for the duration of the school year?
What is the process to do this and what type of lawyer is best suited for the task?
Will it require the parents of the student to travel to Michigan?
Can it be done in time for the 2015-2016 school year?
